WAITING AREA
Waiting area requirements are often defined by the size of the pharmacy/surgery. A smaller pharmacy or clinic maybe just requires a few visitor seats, whereas hospital pharmacies would have a much larger scale waiting area. In general the following guideline should be followed:
Ideally a waiting area should have direct access to treatment/consultancy rooms and WC facilities.
A range of seating should be provided suitable for elderly, children etc. The seating should be easy to clean and use anti-bacterial material whenever possible.
As this is a social area, provide information via notice boards, posters and leaflets. Consider having refreshments if possible.
Space should be provided for pushchair and wheel chair access, if a wheel chair needs to be turned around at least 1.5m clearance is required.
Suitable flooring which can withstand cleaning with a chlorine releasing product is recommended. Carpets should not be used as they are easily damaged and soiled and cannot be cleaned sufficiently.
